About

Nonworkers is a creative venture undertaken by Jen and Kathleen, a crafty sibliing duo residing in Perth, Western Australia. Our basic aim is to have fun, make things and share it with whoever happens by… you, for example :).

The one thing we know for sure is that we no longer want to work. And by work we mean, working for ‘The Man’, in a cubicle, in a grey office, with petty rules and dress codes. We’ve done our time on Corporate Drive and in doing so have armed ourselves with the necessary skills required to go it alone and try something completely different. We want to use these skills to make/do things that are meaningful to us and hopefully to you.

We live to draw, design, and screen print and we just love tshirts, bags, books, movies, music and of course the in’ernet. We hope you enjoy what we have to offer.

FAQ

Why are you called Nonworkers?

The name Nonworkers came from our dad Bernie (a real character in the game). Way back when, in response to our lack of enthusiasm for menial chores he would screech, “You’re all members of the Non-workers Association”, and if you were the worst offender you might even be crowned the “President”. It’s funny – we always felt kinda happy to belong to it.

As it happens, the philosophy behind the original Non-workers Association still applies to us today. Thus we thought Nonworkers would be a rather fitting title for this venture. What will come of it – we don’t know, but that’s the fun of it.

How do you expect to make a living out of something called Nonworkers?

We know it might seem dumb to call your business Nonworkers and expect to get work out of it but heck, we don’t care. We’ve had it with corporate greed, advertising, marketing people, job titles, mass production, focus on profits – ugh! the list goes on and the head does spin.

Truth is, we love to work when we’re doing something we’re passionate about. We’ve been spurred on by stories of ordinary people who have gone out their own to do something that they love, so if – in turn – we spur on others to do the same, then it ain’t be in vain for nothin’.

So, what exactly is a nonworker?

To us, a nonworker is someone who has worked for, or is currently working for someone else (namely ‘The Man’) and has felt or is currently feeling that they would rather be doing something else entirely.

So as ‘Nonworkers’, we are what we have always been – yet now, what once we thought we ought to be doing… we are!

From what we’ve seen, by definition most people are nonworkers. Look to your heart – you might find that you are one too.
